HERMES 5 (Handbuch der Elektronischen Rechenzentren des Bundes, eine Methode zur Entwicklung von Systemen) is an open standard for managing and handling IT projects.
HERMES is the project management method for projects in the field of information technology, the development of services and products and the adaptation of business organization.
The HERMES 5 certification scheme has two main levels, HERMES Foundation and HERMES Advanced.

What is HERMES 5
HERMES is the project management method for projects in the field of information technology, the development of services and products and the adaptation of business organization.
This method has been developed since 1975 and has been continuously refined with the active support of users and technical experts.
HERMES methodology has been used in the Federal Administration since 1975 to manage and implement IT projects. It has been further developed over the years and revised in 1986, 1995, 2003 and 2005. HERMES was introduced in 2012.
HERMES 5 supports the control, management and execution of projects of different characteristics and complexity. HERMES has a clear, easy to understand method structure, is modular and expandable.
HERMES methodology creates a common understanding of project and program management and describes the tasks, results and required roles, but is not the only important success factor for project and program management. It is assumed that programme principals, programme managers and programme coordinators have the necessary skills to perform their roles successfully.
